The Ant and the Grasshopper One summer's day in a field, a grasshopper was sitting on a stone. He was playing a violin while singing. An ant passes by the grasshopper. The ant bore along with a great toil a corn ear that he was taking to the nest. "Ha..ha... Why don't you come and chat with me?" mocked the Grasshopper, "instead of toiling and moiling in that way?" "I am preparing food for the winter," answered the Ant, "and I suggest you to do the same." "Why bother about winter?" asked the Grasshopper, "We have got plenty of food at present." The Ant didn't care about what the Grasshopper had said. He went on its way and continued its toil. When the winter came, the Grasshopper didn't have any food. He found himself dying of hunger while seeing the ants distributing every day corn and grain from the stores they had collected in the summer. Then, the grasshopper learnt something from the Ant. 1 . Jessica looked out her window and saw the glow of the lantern inside the tent in the backyard. Her younger sister and her friends decided it would be cool to "camp out." Jessica rolled her eyes. She was fourteen and liad been on real camp-outs. "Fifth graders," she mumbled. "Kids." Jessica picked up a book from her desk. Before plopping down on her bed to read, she cracked the window open a little. "Just in case," she thought, "so I'll hear if there's trouble." She did hear quite a lot, but it wasn't trouble. The three girls were giggling and having a great time. Jessica tried to concentrate on her book but found herself back at the window. A foot with a fuzzy pink slipper hung out the flap of the tent. There was a jar of fireflies in the grass. Jessica glanced at the clock. 10:23. "Shouldn't those kids be settling down by now?" she thought. At 10:27, Jessica heard nothing. She didn't bother to look out the window. She just went downstairs and out into the back yard. The tent was dark, but she still heard hushed voices inside. She opened the flap and stuck her head in. All three girls screamed and got tangled up in their sleeping bags trying to huddle together. Then they realized it was Jessica. "You guys OK?" "We were reading a scary story when our lantern burned out, so we decided to go to sleep. Then YOU showed up and REALLY scared us. You probably did it on purpose, too!" Lisa snapped. She didn't, of course, but she also didn't mind having done it. 4. If she heard nothing, why did Jessica go outside to the tent?

The Fox and the Crow One day, a fox saw a crow. The crow was flying off with a piece of cheese in its beak. Then, he settled on a branch of tree. "Give the cheese for me because I am a fox," said the fox while he was walking up to the foot of the tree. The crow didn't give any answer. She didn't want the cheese in her mouth fell down from his mouth to the ground. "Good morning, Mistress Crow," he cried, "How beautiful you are looking today. Your feathers are glossy. Your eyes are so bright. I am sure your :voice is the most beautiful among other birds. Let me hear but one song from you that I may greet you as the Queen of Birds." The crow lifted up her head and began to caw her best, but the moment she opened her mouth, the piece of !2heese fell to the ground, only to be snapped up by Master Fox. "That will do," said he.
