He could heal sick people and some said he could even teleport himself elsewhere in a blink of an eye. One day, a very ill man came to the hermit’s house to ask for his healing. “Please, help me. Cure me from my illness and I will give everything I have so I can live.” The hermit agreed to help him out and he was cured. The next day, an old man came and asked the same thing. The hermit observed him and he knew he was not ill, just old. So, he told the man that he couldn’t do anything for him. The old man was very rich. He begged and begged the hermit but there was nothing to be done until he finally passed away. The hermit thought of the old man’s death. “I can do so many things but if I don’t do something I would end up dying like that old man.” The good helpful hermit suddenly wanted to life forever. He started practicing many horrible dark magic and did countless terrible things to achieve immortality. The hermit managed to age very slowly but in the end all his efforts was in vain because he died at last anyway. When he was about to be buried, the earth grumbled. Everytime any of the villagers tried to put his body into the pit, the earth would spat it back out. People were afraid and finally they left the hermit corpse behind. The earth refused the hermit’s body due to all the bad things he had done. The hermit corpse then shrunk and harden and became what people today call as jenglot.
