Pertanyaan

Many years ago there was a Count named Siegfried, the founder of Luxembourg. The tale said that Count Siegfried had a wife named Melusina. When they got married, Melusina made one request to his husband. She asked him to leave her alone for one full day and night every month. She warned her husband that he should not ask or try to find out what she was doing. “Anything else, dear?” asked Count Siegfried but that was all that she said.Of course, Melusina was such a beautiful girl that Count Siegfried could not refuse that one small wish of hers. All went well for years and years. When the first Wednesday of the month came, Melusina would retire into her chambers in the “Casemates”, a network of caverns underneath the city, not to be seen again until early light on Thursday. Unfortunately, one day, Count Siegfried’s curiosity got the better of him. Wondering what on earth his wife might be doing alone all that time, he peeped through the keyhole. He was shocked to see that Melusina was lying in the bathtub, with a fishtail hanging over the rim. Count Siegfried covered his mouth with his hand. He tried not to scream. He was trembling but then again he loved his wife so much. He was willing to pretend as if he had never anything and known nothing but there was something he didn’t know about a mermaid. Mermaids like Melusina is told to have a very keen sixth sense. Their sixth sense tells them instantly when they are being watched. Thus, Melusina recognized her husband through the door. She jumped out of the window into the River Alzette below, never to be seen again. Except, every now and then, some people say they have seen a beautiful girl’s head pop out of the river and a fishtail rippling the calm water of the River Alzette. The Count lost his beloved wife because he was too eager to know the truth. The moral value from this text is “...”
