Dear Nancy,

We are having a great holiday here on the Gold Coast. Yesterday we went to the Movie World.

When we got up in the morning, it looked like rain. After a while the cloud disappeared and it became a sunny day. The we decided to go to the Movie World.

The first ride I went on was Lethal Weapon. Next, I watch the Police Academy show. After that I had lunch because I was really hungry. Meanwhile, Mum and Kelly queued for the Batman ride.

About one o’clock, we got a light shower of rain but it cleared up soon after. Then we went on all the other rides.

It was a top day. See you when you get back.

As the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying on the road where the boulder had been.

The purse contained a lot of gold coins and a note from the king indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The peasant learned what many others never understand.

What does the last paragraph tell us ?

                Ojek “motorcycle taxi” began appearing in Jakarta after becak was banned in 1994. Ojek service began as a people’s initiative to provide an alternative transportation for people who used becak from main roads into housing complexes.

                There is no government license or control for ojek. By the law, all motorcycle passengers should wear helmet so ojek drivers should have a spare for their passengers to wear. Ojek tends to congregate at t-junctions on main roads and near smaller roads that are not serviced by bus routes.

                Ladies should have a careful position in taking ojek. Also, if the women wear a dress, they have to sit sidewise on the back of the vehicle. You have to bargain before you get on and ask a local people about the usual price.

 

What is mainly discussed in the text?

                There was a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he loses his temper, he must hammer a nail into the fence.

                The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily, gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when the boy didn’t lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy should pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.

                The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said “You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one.”

                You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won’t matter how many times you say I’m sorry, the wound is still there.

 

What can we learn from the story?

1. We left our house at about 5 o'clock in the morning. We took a taxi to the railway station.

2. Finally our train came. All of us rushed to get on the train.

3. Last Lebaran, my family and I went hometown. We decided to take a train because it is more comfortable.

4. It took about 5 to 7 hours to get to our hometown. We enjoyed our journey.

5. We took the carriage no 3 according to our tickets.

6. But without any prior information, our train was late for about fifteen minutes, so we had to wait a bit longer.

7. After finding our seats we could sit comfortably.

8. We arrived at the station at six. Our train would leave at 6.40.
 

 

Once upon a time, there was a poor woman who had lost her husband and had a son named Malin Kundang. One day, Malin Kundang went sailing to other place. Ever since Malin Kundang leaving, his mother went to the shore everyday, waiting for Malin Kundang to return.

After years, her waiting came to an end when a luxurious ship docked at the shore. A young couple in extravagant clothes stepped down from the ship. Malin's mother was sure that the young man was her son. She tried to embrace him, but he threw her away. He didn't admit the woman as his mother.

Being denied and humiliated, Malin's mother cursed her son. After a moment, the luxurious ship was attacked by a hurricane and the cursed son turned into rock.

The Legends of Toba Lake

There was a handsome man named Batara Guru Sahala, who enjoyed fishing so much. One day, he caught a fish. He was surprised to find out that the fish could talk. The fish begged him to see it free.

Batara Guru Sahala could not bear it. He made the first free. As soon as it was free, the fish changed into a very beautiful woman. Batara Guru Sahala fell in love with that fish-woman and wanted to marry her. Batara Guru Sahala promised to keep the secret that she had been a fish and would never tell anybody about it.

They were married happily. They had two daughters. One day Batara Guru Sahala got very angry with his daughters. He could not control his temper. He shouted angrily and got the word of fish to his daughters. The daughters were crying. They found their mother and told her about it.

The mother very angry. Batara Guru Sahala broke his promise. The mother was shouting angrily, then the earth began to shake. Volcanoes started to erupt. The earth formed a very big hole. People believed that the big hole became a lake. Today the lake is known as Toba lake.

The Monkey and The Crab                 Long ago, at the foot of a mountain, lived a crab. On a warm spring day, the crab walked leisurely along a nearby river. Suddenly a big rice ball dropped in front of her. “Oh my God! What a good thing I found”, she said to herself.                 Then a greedy monkey came. He wanted to have the rice ball, so he said, “Hey, let’s trade the rice ball with my fruit seed. This seed is better than that rice ball. When you eat the rice ball, it disappears, but if you put this seed on the ground, it will grow and produce a lot of fruits.” The crab agreed to exchange the rice ball. Then she took the seed home and planted it.                 Soon the seed grew into a small bud and became a big tree. It made a lot of red fruits. The crab wanted to eat the fruit, but she could not climb the tree. Then the monkey came again, climbing the tree and eating the fruits. The crab begged the monkey to pick some for her and her kind. Yet, the selfish monkey took a hard green fruit and threw it to the crab. She was smashed very hard.                 The crabs kids started to cry and their noise attracted other animals. They soon found out what happened. The King of the animals decided to give the monkey a punishment.
