Plato, a Greek philosopher was born to an aristocratic family around 428 bc in Athens. He was one of the most creative and influential thinker in western philosophy. Both of his parents were believed to be the descendant of important people. While his father, Aniston, was the offspring of the early Kings of Athens. His mother was related to solon, a lawmakers in the 6® century bc. Plato's mother married to the statesman Pericles acquaintance, Pyrilampes, after this father had passed away when he was still a child. In 387 bc, Plato established what people believe to be the first European university, called the academy located in Athens, his institutions had a curriculum which included astronomy philosophy. biology, political theory, and mathematics. One notable student who studied in this institution is Aristotle. Plato died, at about the age of 80, in Athens in 348 or 347 bc. What is the social function or purpose of the text? A.
