Text 2
Once, there was a land called Sleepwell. The people who lived there believed that anyone who slept well would think clearly and would be kind. Therefore, they chose the person who could sleep best to be their king or queen. The king and queen of Sleepwell had a little daughter named Princess Stardream. She was afraid to sleep because she had very bad dreams.
The princess grew weaker and thinner. The king sent all the doctors to cure her, but nothing helped, Then, the king announced that he would give a great reward to anyone who could cure the princess' bad dreams, but no one came to try. Then, the king went out in the wide world to find a cure. He asked everyone he met to cure the princess, but no one knew how to cure her. He traveled so long that he grew tired and discouraged.
Later, the king was lost! Suddenly, he saw a glittering and sparkling item between the bushes. It looked like a little piece of moonlight and it hopped around so quickly. As the king got closer, he saw a sparkling skinny little man. "Oh, who will invite me? I am so hungry," said the little man. "I \would gladly give you some bread and butter," said the king kindly. "Ugh, I could never eat that. Then, why did you come here?'' asked the little man. "I am looking for a person who can free my daughter from her bad dreams," replied the king.
Then, the little man whistled. The king's coat became a huge sheet of paper, the walking stick became a long pen, and the boots became a giant ink bottle. The little man dipped the pen in the ink and wrote:
Dream-Eater, Dream-Eater, come and guard my sleep.
Eat up all the bad dreams with your snapping beak.
Eat up all the nightmares that come and frighten me.
But all the happy dreams are mine, so let the good ones be.
I invite you, Dream-Eater.
Come and dine with me.
Then, he rolled up the paper and gave it to the king to give it to the princess, but the king was lost. He didn't know the way home. Later, the little man brought the king to try to the palace.
The little man and the king landed in the princess's bedroom. "I have the cure!" called the king and showed the speech on the paper. The princess read it and could sleep well. From then on, every time Princess Stardream began having bad dreams, she read the speech out aloud and invited Dream-Eater. She never saw him, but she heard his voice. The king had the speech copied down so that everyone could call Dream-Eater. Dream-Eater grew well-fed and very contented.
