My Favorite Apple Tree

In wintertime the ground is white, the darkness brings the long cold nights
And blustery winds make drifts that are so deep
The stars and moon put on a show, reflecting jewels in the snow
While most of nature takes a peaceful sleep
And my favorite apple tree looks as dead as it could be
Without its leaves, the branches are so bare
And it's hard to think that soon branches once again will bloom
'Cause there is no sign of springtime anywhere

There's a hillside in the meadow it's a place I like to be
It's a place where I can daydream and a place where I feel free
It's a place where all the seasons color what I do and see
While sitting in my favorite apple tree

When springtime finally comes around snow blankets melt and free the ground
And everything stirs with the gentle breeze
The sun and rain cause buds to grow and sap beneath the rough bark flows
And soon the branches burst with fresh young leaves

And the blossoms pink and round are like jewels in a crown
When they open it's the sweetest smell I know
And the buzzing of the bees is so soft up in the trees
Without them, fruit would not begin to grow

When summer finally does arrive the land is green and so alive
And everything seems so content to be
The nice warm showers and evening light the morning dew and days so bright
All help to make a healthy apple tree
When the small fruit starts to grow all the branches seem to bow

'Cause they'll have such weight to carry 'til the fall
And some worms are searching for the perfect apple core
But I sure hope that they save some for us all

When autumn comes with crisp, cool nights the hillside turns to pure delight
As all the world is covered with bright leaves
The brilliant sun and deep blue sky, the sound of birds migrating by
All help create a certain majesty
And the apples red and sweet are a very tasty treat

Every year I choose the biggest and the best
And the deer all gather 'round eating apples from the ground
But I hope they'll leave some for the cider press
