Today, a lot of people from all walks of life love to visit Monas to enjoy the gorgeouso view. Often, they start their morning walk at the Merdeka Square with their family. North of Monas is located the eight-ton bronze statue of Prince Diponegoro, the famous Javanese warrior who fought the Dutch in the guerilla war between 1825 to 1830. This is a statue of the prince on a horse. The statue was crafted by Italian sculptor Colbertado and presented to the Indonesian government in 1965.
In the basement level of the monument people will find dramatic dioramas presenting Indonesian history. Taking an elevator to the top of the observatory deck, they can be charmed by the magnificent cityscape of Jakarta. The deck is about 132 meters above the ground level.
Around the area are wandering delman, traditional transportation mode consisting of horses and carriages which can be hired to browse around the place. Kids, especially, are exited when they have the opportunity to ride on one of them.
