Pada kalimat yang harus dilengkapi ada dua hal penting yang harus diperhatikan yaitu kalimat tersebut adalah kalimat langsung yang ditandai dengan tanda kutip dua (“) dan kata kerja bentuk ketiga ( Verb 3). Kalimat langsung harus menggunakan present tense , maka pilihan jawaban D dan E dapat dieliminasi. Penggunaan Verb 3 dan pada pilihan jawaban tidak ada pilihan yang diawali dengan ‘ have/has ’ sebagai penanda perfect tense mengindikasikan bahwa kalimat tersebut pasif yang berstruktur ‘ verb/modal verb (+not) + be + Verb 3 ’, sehingga pilihan jawaban C dapat dieliminasi juga. Pilihan jawaban A dan B benar secara grammatikal, tetapi karena ada kata sambung ‘ even ’ maka kita harus memilih jawaban yang bertolak belakang dengan makna pada klausa selanjutnya. Klausa selanjutnya berarti ‘meski saat ia berkata benar’ ( even when he speaks the truth ). Maka pilihan yang tepat adalah B yang berarti tidak akan (dipercaya meski saat ia berkata benar).
