Soal di atas menanyakan bagaimana kondisi penggembala ( shepherd ) yang menyebabkan ia memikirkan rencana agar memiliki teman dan kesenangan ( so he thought up a plan so he could get a little company and some excitements ). Ini mengindikasikan penggembala tidak mempunyai teman sehingga ia kesepian dan hidupnya tidak menyenangkan. Pilihan D dan E yang berarti ‘hebat/mengagumkan’ dan ‘menyenangkan’ tidak sesuai dengan kondisi penggembala yang terindikasi kesepian. Pilihan A dan C juga salah karena mereka adalah kata benda ( sorrow dan sadness berarti kesedihan) padahal pada soal ada kata keterangan ( adverb ) ‘ rather ’ yang harusnya diikuti oleh kata sifat ( adjective ), maka pilihan B adalah yang tepat ( lonely berarti kesepian).
