Should Comprehensive Sexual Education be a part of our National Curriculum? This question has always been a subject to a debate, especially because of sexual-related talks are considered taboo in our country. But I want you to take a look at why we should answer yes to this question. First education should actually be done at home. Sexuality education is no exception. However, many parents may not have adequate and accurate information on these issues or they may not feel comfortable discussing sexuality related issues with children. Schools and colleges are the best places where sexuality education can be imparted to children and young people. Trained educators may be better equipped to deal with sensitive issues like sexuality. As the children are transitioning from childhood to adulthood, their bodies undergo numerous hormonal changes. Rapid physical, psychological and social changes happen. CSE helps them in understanding menstruation, their sexuality, sexual desires, sexual orientation; provides information and skills to take care of their sexual health. Too many young people receive confusing and conflicting information including about relationships and sexuality, as they make the transition from childhood to adulthood. If there’s no CSE, they may pick up incorrect and even damaging information through pornographic materials which are easily accessible as booklets or through mobile phones or internet. Therefore, reliable information which can be gotten from education institution is needed to be provided for them. For the facts above, it is obvious that Comprehensive Sexuality Education is important and thus should be included in national curriculum, so it can be taught by well-qualified teachers at school.
