The komodo dragon is the oldest living lizard on earth. It becomes a fierce predator since it can kill its prey as big as a water buffalo. With its strength, it can also be dangerous for human beings.
The komodo dragons are monitor lizards. They truly live up to their name, being the largest species of lizard ever known and capable of growing up to 3m in length and weighing up to 70kg. They have a tapered head, a long neck, a heavy body, and a long tail. Their skin is scaly and dark grey in color. They are also believed to have possibly been influenced by some ancient myths of the fire-breathing dragon because of their yellowish forked tongue with foul breath. Like snakes, they flick their tongue in and out to get information about their surroundings. Moreover, they are also well known for their ferocious bite, combining serrated teeth with toxic saliva.
Talking about their existence, they can only be found in few islands such as Komodo, Rintja, Gillimontang, Padar, and the western tip of Flores island. Those islands are included in Komodo National Park. There, they are protected in order to avoid their extinction.
