Massa garam hidrat = 38 gram Massa garam anhidrat = 20 gram Massa air = 38 - 20 = 18 gram Mr MgSO 4 = (1 x Ar Mg) + (1 x Ar S) + (4 x Ar O) = (1 x 24) + (1 x 32) + (4 x 16) = 120 gram/mol Mr air = (2 x Ar H) + (1 x Ar O) = (2 x 1) + (1 x 16) = 18 gram/mol Reaksi pemanasan senyawa hidrat berlangsung sebagai berikut: Sehingga diperoleh nilai x = 2 dan rumus garam hidrat tersebut adalah MgSO 4 .2H 2 O.

Massa garam hidrat     = 38 gram

Massa garam anhidrat = 20 gram

Massa air                     = 38 - 20 = 18 gram

Mr MgSO4            = (1 x Ar Mg) + (1 x Ar S) + (4 x Ar O)
