As the old saying goes, “They will even be late for their own funeral.” Yet, punctuality is one of the key ways that we can positively brand ourselves. Punctuality displays a person’s respect for people and time. At a scheduled appointment, the late-comer usually gives an impression that he doesn’t value the other person’s time or considers his time more important than the other person’s time. When you are late for appointments with people who value their time, you will have wasted one of their most valuable assets and there is a good chance they will view you as rude, irresponsible and disrespectful. I’m sure this is not how you want to brand yourself. Being punctual also shows you are dependable. A man can always be found at his post, carrying out the duties needful for that time. People know they can rely on such a man. If he says he will be there, he’ll be there. But if a man is not punctual, others cannot depend on him. They do not know where he will be when they need him. His associates will begin to feel he cannot organize his own time, and these doubts will seep into matters beyond the clock, as it naturally raises the question: “If he is careless about time, what else is he careless about?” Like it or not, being on time matters a lot. It communicates to others whether they can trust and rely on you. It gives others insight into how you view them and how you view yourself. It allows you to make an instant good impression, and it can help you reach your goals faster by helping others see you as someone worth listening to. To change your life or career for the better, you should start taking ownership of your time, knowing the importance of punctuality, and choosing never to be late again.
