   Minangkabau (West Sumatra tribe) has a few traditional wind musical instrument . One of them is serunai, which is made of bamboo and has a similar function to the clarinet. Serunai is usually played at traditional  events, such as the ritual batagak panghulu.

    Serunai is made of two pieces of wood or hollow bamboo with different sizes. The small rod is called a puput (pupuik). The puput (pupuik) is a sound source, hand blown by the player. A larger trunk has four or more holes and serves as a stylish tone. Both parts are connected to form a major component of the serunai.

   In addition to the main component, there is another complementary component. The component is a mouthpiece, made of a buffalo horn or wood cork, which is connected at the front side of the flute.
