Work in pairs. Read the story of Situ Bagendit, and then analyze its structure.
Far away in an isolated village there was a rich woman named Nyai Bagendit. She was the richest person in the village. She had a very big house filled with a lot of jewelry. Nyai Bagendit was also known for her bad attitude; she didn't want to help others.
The villagers knew that Nyai Bagendit was very miserly; however they kept coming for the water from her well because they really needed the water.
One day a decrepit man was standing in Nyai Bagendit's yard. He was walking tottery to the well while holding his stick. Nyai Bagendit saw him.
"I won't let you take the water from my well! The water is mine!" said Nyai Bagendit.
When the old man was trying to take the water, Nyai Bagendit hit him.
"Have mercy on me, Nyai! I just want to drink!" begged the old man.
Nyai Bagendit kept beating the old man. And then an astonishing thing happened. Suddenly the old man got up with a healthy body. He pointed his stick at Nyai Bagendit.
"Hey, Bagendit! Take the punishment from me!" said the old man loudly.
Then he pointed his stick at the well, and suddenly the water from the well was overflowing, more and more. Nyai Bagendit couldn't save herself from the water. She drowned with all of her wealth. Slowly, the place became a lake. Since then people named the lake Situ Bagendit.
