When we see it from above, it looks like a large Mandala. Mandala is a figure that represents the universe in Buddhism and Hinduism. It most commonly represent all the 4 main directions that we know today: west, east, south, and North, and it is represented in the temple by the four narrow stairwells on each of its sides. This temple also has nine narrow terraces, which consist of six square terraces, and three round terraces. These terraces symbolizes all the stages in Buddhism.
