The following text is for questions 31 and 32.
(1) Men outrank women in all but one of the fifteen causes of death, and women live an average of five years longer than men do. (2) Although many people have long believed that the reason for women's longevity was genetic, a new study published in the American Journal of Public Health indicates that American males are more likely than women to engage in risky, health-damaging behaviours. (3) In one study of American women, coffee drinkers were one third less likely to commit suicide than non-coffee drinkers. (4) For example, 26 percent of men smoke, compared to 22 percent of women; men are also far more likely to abuse drugs, drive without seat belt, and ride motorcycles without helmets. (5) Thanks to macho attitude that drives men to tackle danger head-on, they are twice likely to get hit by lightning or to drown in flood waters. (6) Men also take care of their bodies less than do women, who are twice as likely as men to get an annual physical. (7) Also, men are less likely to seek professional medical help when they experience health problem. Then, too, men work in more dangerous professions than women, so males account for 90 percent of all on-the-job fatalities.
