Indonesia reaches Thomas Cup final after six years

Jakarta, Saturday, May 21, 2016.

Indonesia is getting close to bringing home the Thomas Cup trophy for the 14th time, after snatching a final spot from 2012 runner-up South Korea in a thrilling 4-1 semi final win on Friday.

The last time Indonesia reached the tournament's final was in 2010. This year, Indonesia, which has notched up a record 13 Thomas Cup wins, is set to meet Denmark in the final.

The Indonesian men's squad owes a big thanks to doubles Angga Pratama and Ricky Karanda Suwandi, who put in a solid performance in finishing the semis.

World number 12 Angga and Ricky, who played the fourth match of the day, displayed a cool determination, which earned them the 21-15, 21-18 victory to embarrass their opponents, world number four King Gi-jung and Kim Sa-rang at the Kunshan Sports Centre Stadium in Jiangsu, China.

"We are more than glad to be able to contribute a decisive winning point to the team," said Angga, the winner of last year's Singapore Open with Ricky.
