Surabaya Wants to Make All Tap Water in The City Drinkable

Surabaya's water company PDAM Surya Sembada wants to purify all tap water in East Java's capital city to make it safe for residents to consume without boiling.

PDAM director of services Anizar Firmadi said that around 500 households in Wonokromo district were already enjoying drinkable tap water since last year when the company started purifying the water.

"Now, many people in the area can drink tap water," he said.

Anizar said the drinking water had gone through chemical and biological processes in compliance with government regulations.

"We use hygienic processing techniques to kill E. coli bacteria in the tap water that cause digestive disorders, such as diarrhea," he explained.

Anizar added that PDAM planned to implement similar measures throughout Wonokromo.

"Our target for the future is to implement this project widely so that people in the city no longer have to boil water," he added.
