Bawang Putih lived with her step mother and her step sister, Bawang Merah. Her step mother and her step sister treated Bawang Puth badly and always asked her to do all the household chores.

One morning, Bawang Putih was washing some clothes in a river and accidentally her step mother's clothes were washed away by the river. She tried to find it. Finally, she met and old woman. She said that she kept the clothes and would give them back if she helped the old woman do the base old chores

Bawang Putih agreed. After everything was finished the old women the clothes and gave her a gift. The old woman had two pumpkins. One was small and the other one was big. She had to choose one. Bawang Putih took the small one. When she arrived home, the pumpkin was smashed by the step mother. Inside the pumpkin they found jewelries.

Bawang Merah did the same as Bawang Putih experience. She went to the old woman and got the big pumpkin. She smashed it there were a lot of snakes inside the pumpkin. They apologized so Bawang Putih forgive them. Finally Bawang Putih decided to sell all the jewelries. Now the family is not poor anymore.
