“I met James at the cafe last week. He said that he worked in that cafe almost every day, but the day before he had seen a famous TV presenter there for the first time. She had been eating some ice-cream at the table where I was sitting at that moment.”

Ketika Mandy berbicara dengan temannya, hal yang kemungkinan akan dia ceritakan adalah isi percakapannya dengan James. Semuanya akan dia ceritakan kembali kepada temannya dalam bentuk kalimat tidak langsung (Indirect Speech) . Masing-masing perubahan yang terjadi pada setiap informasi (kalimat)adalah sebagai berikut. Kalimat “ I work in this café almost every day" menggunakan Simple Present Tense sehingga harus diubah menjadi Simple Past Tense, yaitu “ He (James) worked in that cafe almost every day”.
