Questions 11—13 are based on the text below.
I spoke English for the very first time when I was fifteen.
(2) It started when my dad was visited by his friend from US. Her name was Marcia and she was a nice and kind woman. When she and dad met, I just sat there listening. It was a little hard to understand what they were talking about, but Dad was kind enough to explain in Indonesian.
(6) However, suddenly, Dad said, “Why wouldn’t you tell about yourself to Marcia?” Of course I refused. I was not confident, but Dad insisted. “Go, try!” he said. I didn’t know what to say, except some basic things, like “How are you?” or “Nice to meet you”.
(10) I felt that I was not able to speak English well, but at least I tried. Marcia seemed to understand and she didn’t correct any words or sentences. From then, I got some confidence boost to learn English more.
Why did the writer refuse to talk to Marcia?
Because Marcia was mean.
Because he had no confidence.
Because his dad was talking to Marcia.
Because he wanted to learn English more.
