A special Guest

    Today was very special. A guest came to our class. She was a forthy-year-old woman. My teacher, Ms Asih, called her Mrs Yuni. Ms Asih said that she was from Purwokerto.

    At first, we were puzzled by what she was going to do with us. We thought she was a teacher who was going to teach our class. Then, she introduced herself. She said that her full name was Sri Wahyuni and she was happy to be with us that morning. She spoke in English. Her English was very good, so we were sure that she might be an English teacher.

    Mrs Sri Wahyuni then said that she had just arrived in Yogya from Singapore. She said that she had been there for four years. We were surprised because she looked very simple and humble. Some students started talking about her. We were curious about her job. Finally, she mentioned her job. She was a female migrant worker.

    We got very excited. We asked her many questions. Ms Asih told us to use English. We did so. My friends asked about the duties, the wages, and the conditions in Singapore. Some even asked about what the children there were like. I, myself, asked about her education and I got another surprise. She mentioned that she was only a junior high school graduate. She said that her teacher had taught her how to speak English well. She thanked her English teacher for her job.
