How to Make Siomay
One of Indonesian traditional food is Siomay or Somay. It is an Indonesian dumpling mainly made from the mix of flour with chicken and shrimp, fish and shrimp, or fish/chicken/shrimp only. It depends on you, but this time this recipe will show you how to make Siomay from chicken and shrimp. This recipe is my mom’s recipe that I always use. Feel free to make some changes as you wish.
Ingredients:
Siomay:
300 minced chicken breast fillet 500 gr minced shrimps
300 gr tapioca flour 2 eggs, beaten
4 cloves garlic, crushed Salt (as needed)
Pepper powder (optional) 50 wonton skins
Peanut Sauce:
200 gr peanut sauce (packaged) 150 cc of boiled water
Salt Vegetable oil
30 g pecan 4 cloves garlic fries
25 red chilies steamed (I like it spicy, you can make it less spicy by not using it)
Flavoring:
Ketchup Sweet soy sauce Lime
Steps:
Siomay:
1) Mix shrimps and chicken meat until soft.
2) Take a big container to mix all somay ingredients.
3) Add flour, beaten eggs, salt and pepper to that meat mixture.
4) Mix it well using wooden spoon.
5) Spoon 2 teaspoon of mix and location in the middle of wonton skin.
6) Form as many shapes you want.
7) Repeat all the same steps until all the dough/wonton skins are consumed.
8) Steam for 1-2 hours.
Peanut Sauce:
1) Heat the oil in a sauce pan.
2) Saute garlic, pecan, chili and salt.
3) Blend that with somne packages of peanut sauce.
4) Add some water to make it less thick.
Serve the Siomay with the peanut sauce, ketchup, sweet soy sauce and lime.
