The Diponegoro war took place in Java from 1825 until 1830. It was led by prince Diponegoro of Yogyakarta, the immediate cause was the Dutch’s arrogant decision to build a road across a piece of prince Diponegoro property where his parent were buried. At the beginning of the war, the troops of prince were very successful in controlling central java an besieging Yogyakarta. However, as the war continued, Prince Diponegoro has difficulties in maintaining the number of this tops. On the other hand, the Dutch colonial army was able to fill its rank with troops from Sulawesi, and later on frim the Netherland.
The Dutch commando, general De Kock, was able to end the siege of Yogyakarta on 25 september 1825. Prince Diponegoro started a fierce guerrilla war and it was not until 1827 that the Dutch army gained the upper hand. There were approximately 200.000 people died in the course of the conflict, of which 8.000 were dutch troops. The war finally ended in 1830, after prince Diponegoro was tricked into entering the Dutch fortress near Magelang.
The prince believe that he was invited there for negotiations for a possible cease-fire. He was capture through treachery and deported to Manado and then to Makasar, where he died in 1855. Prince Diponegoro had died but his spirit still continues to live. He died as hero. He died as an old Soldier. Do old soldier never die they just fade away until young soldier appear to replace them.
