Heated responses are given in chat forums, blogs, and real-life over this issue. When baby and ear piercing are in the same sentence or room, people get opinionated quickly. So what’s the big deal? Why do people care so much about this one, minuscule topic? It’s all about beliefs. Some believe this is an issue of body autonomy and little girls have the right to choose when, and if, they want their ears pierced. Others see ear piercings as a rite of passage to be celebrated, equivalent to getting the first tooth or walking.
Anti-baby piercers believe no responsible parent should ever want their child to be in pain. It is hard enough to watch the baby crying squirm when it has vaccinations. Making a child suffer in the name of fashion is cruel.
However, some argue that the pain suffered by a properly done ear piercing to the ear lobe is often less than that caused by a vaccination (or cutting their nails). The pain it inflicts is minimal and doesn't cause any unnecessary or cruel suffering. Any discomfort will be quickly forgotten by a baby once the piercings heal. Older children will be much more likely to remember any pain associated with piercing and may be more traumatized later in life.
In conclusion, whether or not to piece your baby’s ears is a personal decision, one that may be deeply rooted in cultural norms and personal preferences or beliefs.
The proponents of piercing-baby ban would apparently agree that…
Baby piercing helps identify the baby as a girl.
Baby piercing would be a financial blow for business and the government.
Baby piercing is tolerable since it isn’t permanent.
Baby piercing will not cause infection if it’s taken care well.
Baby piercing inflicts unnecessary pain on the child.
