Activity 3
Nayla: What are you going to do with the aquarium?
Randy: I am going to make an aquascape.
Nayla: I've heard about aquascaping, but I don't know what it is precisely.
Randy: Well, aquascaping is a kind of art. We can give natural scenes in an aquarium, such as mountains, jungles, and deserts, in order to create an underwater landscape.
Nayla: It looks interesting. It is similar to standard tropical setups.
Randy: I don't think so. Aquascaping setups can be significantly different from standard tropical setups because several aquatic plants require higher lighting ·and nutrient-rich substrates to thrive.
Nayla: By the way, how do we make an aquascape? What should we do first?
Randy: We need to prepare the aquarium first. We had better choose a regular-shaped aquarium so that fish can have more space to swim.
Nayla: I see you have gravel driftwood, rocks, and artificial plants. What do you use them for?
Randy: To beautify the aquarium with natural outlook. I will use regular gravels which are fine for most circumstances to increase pH and hardness. Then, I will add a soil-based substrate and a lump of driftwood on it.
Nayla: I see.
Randy: Then, I will put rocks and artificial plants on it, to make it more beautiful.
Nayla: How about the water and fish?
Randy: I will fill in the aquarium with water and you put the fish into the aquarium.
Nayla: Agree!
