Africa clawed frogs are native to eastern and southern Africa and parts of western Africa. They have been extensively used for research, and are considered an invasive species on four continents, due to their release into the wild from research laboratories. Africa clawed frogs prefer to spend all of their time in stagnant water where they live, feed and reproduce. The frogs front limbs are small with not-webbed finger used to push food into the month. Their hind legs are large and webbed, and the three inside toes on neither foot have claws, which are not true claws but cornified tips. Although an adept swimmer, the Africa clawed frog is clumsy on land and crawls rather than hope. As tadpoles, Africa clawed frogs are exclusively filter feeders. Adult frogs become scavengers, eating diving, dead or dying arthropods and other pieces of organic taste, including aquatic insect larvae, water insects, crustaceans, small fish, tadpoles, worms and freshwater nails. They have a voracious appetite and will attack anything that passed by. Extremely sensitive finger, an cute sense of small and its lateral like system help to located food. A special pump helps individuals such food into their months. The claws on their hind feet tear apart larger pieces of food.
