Once upon a time, there lived a couple who wanted a child. They had been married for a long time, but they still had no child. They were old, so it was a little bit difficult for them to have a child. But, they kept wishing.

One day their wish came true. The old woman gave a birth to a tiny boy. He was so tiny that he was only the man’s thumb length. People didn’t see him a lot, but they called him Issumboshi, which means an inch boy.

After he had got his human- sized body, they got married and lived happily ever after.
