Hasri Ainun Habibie was the first lady of Indonesian from 1998 to 1999 and the wife of former President Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie. She was born as Hasri Ainun Besari on August 11, 1937 in Semarang to a family which was known as knowledgeable and intellectual because her father was a lecturer and her mother was a midwife. 

Ainun and her siblings studied in Dago Christian Junior College. Ainun continued her education in the Medical Faculty of the University of Indonesian and graduated in 1961. After graduating, she became a pediatrician. Although she was a pediatrician, she established an eye blank which was first known as the Indonesian Blind Eye Support Society or Perkumpulan Penyantun Mata Tunanetra Indonesia (PPMTI) on July 31, 1969. 

In 2010, Ainun entered Ludwig Maximilians Universitat Hospital, Munich, Germany for intensive care for her ovarian cancer. After several operations, she died on May 22 in the same year. Her body was sent back to Jakarta and buried in the Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery on May 25 in a military funeral ceremony conducted by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
