Calon Arang the Evil Witch Long, long ago in East Java, there was a kingdom called Kahuripan. Abiding the palace was Raja Sri Baginda Erlangga. One day, the kingdom was suffered from a plague administered by an evil witch named Calon Arang, who lived in Girah village. To deal with the witch, the king sent his general, Narottama, and his trusted commanders. Narottama and his commanders immediately went to Girah to deal with the witch and her apprentices. However, soon the general realized that Calon Arang was invincible. None of his attacks were useful against the witch. Calon Arang could only laugh when the general and his commanders cowered and forced to retreat. The defeat of his general made the king to ask for help from Empu Bharada, a hermit with supernatural power which also Calon Arang's cousin. Empu Bharada said that Calon Arang has a weakness. The only weapon that could defeat Calon Arang was kris Weling Putih which was Empu Bharada's. This meant Empu Bharada had to fight his own cousin. However, Empu Bharada thought that Calon Arang had done terrible things to the country and needed to be stopped. The battle between Kahuripan Kingdom troops and Calon Arang and her apprentices happen once again. This time, with the help of Empu Bharada, General Narottama and his comannders managed to fight back Calon Arang apprentices. However, they are still no match for Calon Arang. Calon Arang defeated the general and his commanders easily. She laughed as they cowered behind Empu Bharada. Then, Empu Bharada unsheathed kris Weling Putih and used its power. Calon Arang who was shocked and injured from the weapon, begged for mercy. She and her apprentices fled and never returned to Kahuripan kingdom.
