Bullying has affected millions of students. It has made affected students afraid of going to school. Even though many cases have been reported, parents, teachers, and principals do not completely understand how severe bullying is. Some people still think that it is not a serious matter.

Bullies choose targets whom they think don't fit in, possibly because of their appearance, performance, race, and religion. Bullies attack their targets physically and psychologically. For example, people in a popular group often bully people they categorize as targets by punching or hitting (physically), gossiping about them (psychological bullying), or teasing their targets (verbal bullying). Indeed, verbal bullying includes cyber bullying by sending cruel texts or posting insults about a person on social media.

Bullies cause problems. Studies show that those who are badly-treated are subject to mental health problems such as stress, depression, or anxiety. Furthermore, they may also think more about suicide. Bullying is violence. As reported, 1 out of 4 elementary school bullies will have a criminal record by the age of 30.
