As a teacher, I often get the same question from my students. Every year most of my students come to me and ask, "Ma'am, can you please tell us how to improve our vocabulary fast?"

To the question I often give explanation why vocabulary seems to be difficult to master, which means difficult not to forget shortly. My first suggestion is always to have a dictionary close to them. However, I know how today students regard a dictionary, either it is too thick or two complicated. So I'd say that having a digital dictionary on their mobile phone is a good solution. Are there any teenagers who would feel comfortable without their mobile in hand, by the way?

To get themselves used to with English or to make English as part of their daily activity is my next suggestion. All of them have got Twitter of Facebook account, so I'd advice them to force themselves to make status or to chat, to send messages in English. Mistakes in word choice might be made, but that is part of a process in enriching vocabularies.

Well, mastering vocabulary is a matter how often you deal with the words. So the more often you deal with them, the more "familiar" they will be to you.
