Andrew Darwis Andrew Datwis is a founder of Kaskus, the largest online community in lndonesia, who has made his name as one of lndonesia's successful interpreneur. Darwis was born on July 20th 1979, in Jakarta, the capital city oflndonesia. He is the second of three siblings. Darwis has started his education in the elementary school Tarakanita in Pluit Jakarta before continuing his education at the junior high school at Tarakanita Pluit Jakarta. After graduating from junior high school, he chose to continue Gandhi National School for high school, inAncol, Jakarta. His passion in IT and computers was seen after successfully created a site for his uncle's furniture business. This leads him to study in University of Bina Nusantara, majoring Information Systems. He then continued his study abroad at Art Institute of Seattle, majoring in Multimedia & Web Design. ln 1999, Darwis and his friends, Ronal Stephanus and Rudi Dharmawan, were given a project to create a software by their professor. They finally create a portal named Kaskus which was originally intended as an informal forum for Indonesian students who studied abroad. Kaskus in the early days was not popular, and people were not as much interested to visit the forum. The failure of Kaskus made Darwis learnt a lot and began to fix his work on the website. Darwis began changing the design and categorizing the forums. One special forum category that he created, named "FJB" which meant sale and purchase, has made a big impact and benefit for the online businesses. Since that,time, the popularity of Kaskus began to develop. In 2008, Kaskus was legally registered as a company by the name of PT. Darta Media Indonesia. Darwis' persistence in the development of the site leads Kaskus to be the fast growing community site in Indonesia. Kaskus has received many awards. Kaskus also has got a nomination from Microsoft as the Innovative Top Website in 2008, and from Indosat as The Online inspiring. Darwis now takes a position of CTO in the company and is responsible for controlling and maintairting the quality ofinfbrmation technology at Kaskus. He continues to identify opportunities for creating and adopting new innovation.
