''I'll bring you home, dear old lady," Mother Kangaroo said kindly. They hadn't gone far when Joey hopped to the nearby bushes again. Mother Kangaroo want ed to go after Joey but she couldn't leave the old woman behind. "I can't walk any farther," said the old woman. Mother Kangaroo made her sit on a log under a shade. Then, she was looking around when she caught a glimpse of her son. Joey was going towards the river again. Mother Kangaroo decided to carry the old woman to the river. Near the river, Mother Kangaroo heard the scream of Joey. She saw her son being pushed towards the riverbank by Mr. Crocodile. "Your son is too much of a problem. He is nearly drowned on my property. Better make sure that your kid doesn't make a mess of my place," Mr. Crocodile warned. ''I'm deeply thankful, Mr. Crocodile," said Mother Kangaroo ashamed that her son was causing all these problems. Mr. Crocodile swam back to the river without saying anything. Mother Kangaroo was surprised because the old woman disappeared. "I was the old woman you helped. I was looking for the kindest animal in the forest and I have found you. Now, I want to give you a reward for your kindness," said the Fairy Queen. With a swift wave of her magic wand, the apron turned into the pouch that all female kangaroos have today. 5. Why did the fairy give a pouch to Mother Kangaroo? a.
